Hot Finished Structural Hollow Sections

 1. Scope  

EN 10210 specifies the technical delivery requirements for hot-finished structural hollow sections (circular, square, rectangular, or elliptical) made of non-alloy and fine-grain steels. These sections are used in welded, bolted, or riveted structures.  

 2. Ordering Information  

When ordering, the following must be specified:  

l - Standard designation (EN 10210-1 & EN 10210-2)  

l - Type of hollow section (shape and dimensions)  

l - Steel grade (e.g., S235JRH, S355J2H, etc.)  

l - Delivery condition (usually "hot-finished")  

l - Quantity (length, number of pieces, or weight)  

l - Any additional testing or inspection requirements  

 3. Main Steel Grades  

The standard covers non-alloy steels (S235, S275, S355) and fine-grain steels (S275NH, S355NH, S420NH, etc.) with specified impact energy requirements. Common grades include:  

l - S235JRH  

l - S275J0H / S275J2H  

l - S355J0H / S355J2H / S355K2H  

l - S275NH / S355NH / S420NH (for low-temperature applications)  

 4. Chemical Composition & Mechanical Properties  

- Chemical composition limits for carbon (C), manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), etc.  

- Mechanical properties (yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, impact energy at specified temperatures).  

 5. Inspection & Testing Requirements  

l - Visual inspection for surface defects.  

l - Dimensional checks (tolerances as per EN 10210-2).  

l - Mechanical tests (tensile, impact, hardness if required).  

l - Non-destructive testing (NDT) if specified (ultrasonic, eddy current, etc.).  

l - Certification: Manufacturer must provide a Inspection Certificate (3.1 or 3.2 as per EN 10204).

  - Manufacturer’s name/trademark  

  - Steel grade  

  - Heat number  

  - Dimensions  

- Surface protection (e.g., oiling, temporary corrosion protection) may be applied.  

 7. Tolerances (EN 10210-2)  

- Dimensional tolerances (outer dimensions, wall thickness, straightness, squareness).  

- Mass tolerances (deviation from theoretical weight).
