A field-tested procurement playbook that turns datasheet lines into a coordinated package of industrial valves, flanges, fittings and stud bolts—without surprise delays at site.
On most plant projects, industrial valves arrive last but cause the first commissioning headaches. A two-inch mis-match in flange facing between a gate valve and the adjacent line will idle a crew for days; a stud bolt ordered one pitch too short can stop a hydro-test on a Sunday morning. The problem is rarely the valve alone. It is the gap between the datasheet and the bolt-and-gasket stack bolted to its body.
The most reliable way to close that gap is to treat valves as the center of a coordinated package—industrial valves, pipe flanges, pipe fittings, gasket stud bolt nut assemblies, and the pipe itself—delivered by one supplier with one quality plan and one point of accountability. That is the standard we built EZ Steel Industrial around since 1994, and it is the lens we will use throughout this guide.
Buyers who write the cleanest RFQs start with three numbers: design pressure, design temperature and the fluid. From those three numbers fall most of the metallurgical and standard decisions.
At EZ Steel Industrial, our engineers walk the service condition against the available body standards (API 600, API 602, API 603, API 6D) before a single line item is written. The result is a datasheet that does not need to be re-issued when the inspector arrives.
Once service is fixed, the body standard drives the metallurgical envelope. The following table summarizes the choices that show up most often on our quotation desk.
| Standard | Typical Body Type | Best-Fit Service |
|---|---|---|
| API 600 | Bolted-bonnet cast gate, globe, check | Refinery, steam, high-pressure hydrocarbon lines |
| API 602 | Forged compact gate, globe, check | Auxiliary lines, small-bore high-pressure service |
| API 603 | Stainless cast gate, globe, check | Corrosive and low-temperature services |
| API 6D | Pipeline ball and check | Long-distance oil & gas trunk lines |
Each of these standards also dictates flange facing and bore dimensions, which is why the pipe flanges and the pipe fittings that mate to the valve must be sourced on the same standard map. Mixing an ASME B16.5 RF flange with a BS 10 table flange is a common field failure we are often called in to resolve.
A valve without its companion components is incomplete. The four side-kicks below are the ones that, when ordered together, eliminate most site mismatches.
We supply pipe flanges in ASTM A105, A350 LF2, A182 F304/F316 and copper-nickel grades. Faces are machined to the same RF or RTJ finish as the valve, so gasket seating is repeatable. For seawater service, copper nickel flanges in 90/10 or 70/30 are pulled from the same metallurgical batch as the connecting pipe.
Elbows, tees and reducers in butt weld fittings, socket weld fittings and threaded fittings are kept on the same ASME B16.9 / B16.11 cell as the valves. When a 300# valve meets a 150# elbow, the joint is unsafe long before the valve seats.
Gasket stud bolt nut assemblies are the most overlooked BOM line and the most over-looked failure source. We pair spiral-wound and RTJ gaskets with B7/B7M stud bolts and 2H nuts as standard, and switch to B8/B8M when stainless valves are specified.
Whether the line is carbon steel pipe in ASTM A106/A53/API 5L or stainless steel pipe in ASTM A312/A269, the heat number, MTC and NDT scope should travel through the bundle. One MTC system means one audit, not six.
A coordinated bundle is also an inspection-friendly bundle. Our ISO 9001 lab works to ASME and AWS welding requirements, and our inspectors follow a single inspection and test plan that covers hydrostatic testing, NDT, dimensional checks and coating. The result for the buyer:
The numbers we quote are the numbers we can defend in front of any TPI. With 480,000+ tons of annual capacity and 500+ specialists, that scale is what allows us to bundle without compromising documentation depth.
Even a perfect BOM fails if half of it sits in customs. EZ Steel Industrial ships from China with consolidated packing, heat-number-level marking and seaworthy crating. We sequence crates to erection order, so the first valve needed on site is the first one lifted off the truck. For large projects we work against the EPC master schedule and feed weekly shipment updates into the buyer's logistics platform.
A valve is only as reliable as the flange, gasket and stud bolt stacked on top of it. Treat industrial valves as the centre of a coordinated package and the package arrives on time, on spec and on budget.
Use this short list as the final pass on every valve RFQ:
Send us your valve datasheet, line list or project BOM. Our engineering team at EZ STEEL INDUSTRIAL will return a coordinated quotation covering industrial valves, pipe flanges, pipe fittings and gasket stud bolt nut assemblies on a single MTC chain.
