A field-tested 4-quadrant framework (basic standards, base-tube selection, performance testing, mill-direct sourcing) for EPC procurement, refinery and power-plant engineers, and project-bundled buyers.
If you are specifying a finned-tube economizer for a 660 MW boiler, a U-bundle for a hydrocracker feed-effluent exchanger, or a cryogenic vaporizer coil for an LNG regas terminal, you already know the conversation is not about a single tube. It is about a system: base tube, fin geometry, bonding method, MTC discipline, and the mill that can deliver all of it in one shipment. EZ Steel Industrial has been that mill since 1994 — 500+ employees, 480,000+ tonnes of annual capacity, and a project-centric bundled-sourcing model that has shipped to the South-to-North Water Diversion, the West-East Gas Pipeline, and refinery / petrochemical EPCs across Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
This guide uses the same 4-quadrant framework that Chinese and ISO standards rely on (basic / material / testing / trend), but extends it with the three decisions a 2026 buyer actually makes: which base tube, which fin or bend, and which mill-direct supplier. Wherever the customer product line intersects a specification clause, you will find a direct link to the relevant heat efficiency tubes page so that the engineering desk and the procurement desk speak the same language.
Before you compare mill quotes, lock the four standard quadrants. They are the only common language a Chinese mill, a Korean EPC and a Saudi Aramco engineer all share. Skipping this step is the single most common reason that finned-tube orders are re-issued at the 11th hour.
Brands change. Standards endure. ISO 9303 (terminology), GB/T 14976 (stainless base tube), GB/T 8163 (carbon base tube), JB/T 10326 (finned-tube geometry and bonding) and ASTM G48 (chloride pitting) are the only documents you can hand to a third-party inspector and have a meaningful conversation. Anchor your spec to these — not to a brochure.
"Heat efficiency tube" is a category, not a SKU. A serious buyer compares three product lines side-by-side and then asks the mill to bundle them into one shipment. EZ Steel ships all three from one production system in Changsha, with one MTC chain and one project manager.
| Product line | Typical geometry | Typical service | Base-tube standards commonly paired |
|---|---|---|---|

| U bend tubes (sub-family) | Long-radius U-bend (R = 1.5D – 3D); J-bend return; hairpin | Hydrocracker, FCC, ethylene, LNG coil-wound, ammonia, air-cooled exchanger headers | A179, A192, A210, A213 TP304/316/321/347, A249, B163 N06600 / N08825, B165 Monel 400 |
A petrochemical EPC will often issue one PO for finned tubes for the convection bank, U-bend tubes for the reactor-feed effluent exchanger, and base tubes for the air-cooled overhead condenser. Three separate POs to three separate mills means three MTC chains, three inspection visits, three freight bookings, and a 4-8 week longer critical path. EZ Steel's project-centric bundled model collapses that into one MTC chain (same heat, same mill, same QA team) and one bill of lading — which is why the South-to-North Water Diversion Project and the West-East Gas Pipeline Project both sourced multi-category packages from a single mill.
The most expensive line item on a finned-tube RFQ is almost never the fin. It is the base tube. Pick the base-tube grade by duty fluid, duty temperature and chloride / sulfur content — and you will find the fin, the bonding method and the test plan slot in automatically. EZ Steel publishes the entire base-tube catalog on the stainless steel pipe, carbon steel pipe and copper nickel alloy family pages; the table below is the procurement-team shortcut.
| Duty environment | Recommended base tube | Fin / bonding typically paired | Test evidence to demand |
|---|---|---|---|
| Process steam 350-560 °C, refinery / power | ASTM A335 P11 / P22 / P91, GB 5310 12Cr1MoVG | Solid Hf-welded spiral fin, G-fin embedded | GB/T 13303 800 °C 100 h, JB/T 10326 1000 °C 2 h, hydrostatic 1.5× design P |
| High-pressure boiler / superheater | ASTM A192, A210 Gr.A1 / C, GB 3087 | Welded spiral fin; serrated if flue gas is dirty | JB/T 10326 pull-off ≥ 150 N/cm, hydrostatic |
| Chemical, fertilizer, coastal process gas | ASTM A312 TP304 / TP316L, GB/T 14976 | Welded helical; L-foot for low-temp | ASTM G48 5 % NaCl 50 °C 72 h, intergranular corrosion |
| Seawater cooling, FSRU regas, offshore platform | ASTM B466 / EEMUA 234 Cu-Ni 90/10 (C70600), 70/30 (C71500) | Welded Cu-Ni fin on Cu-Ni base, or aluminum fin on Cu-Ni base (AAV) | EEMUA 234 hydro, ASTM G48 chloride pitting |
| Cryogenic / LNG AAV / vaporizer | 304L, 316L, 9 % Ni, aluminum 1060 / 3003 | Aluminum fin (L-foot or extruded) for AAV; welded 304L for cryogenic coils | Charpy at − 196 °C (per ASME B31.3), MTC 3.2 |
| High-temperature alloy, ethylene cracking | ASTM B163 N06600, N08825; B165 Monel 400 | Welded or brazed nickel-alloy fin | ASTM G48 chloride (where applicable), solution-anneal evidence |
If the duty is seawater or coastal, start at copper nickel alloy and walk up. If the duty is high-temperature process, start at carbon steel pipe and walk up. If the duty is hygienic / cryogenic / coastal, start at stainless steel pipe. The 480,000+ t/y mill capacity means you can scale a single base-tube grade across the entire bundle without changing supplier.
A finned-tube bundle does not arrive in isolation. It bolts into a channel cover, a shell flange, a tubesheet, a manway. The same mill-direct discipline that protects the tube has to extend to the joint, otherwise you have an excellent bundle welded to a leaky header. The 8-category EZ Steel catalog is built so that pipe fittings, pipe flanges and gasket stud bolt and nut components ride the same MTC chain.
The cost of bundling fittings, flanges and the bundle itself is roughly 4-7 % lower than separate POs (in our 2024-2025 project book), and the critical-path saving is 4-8 weeks on a typical 8-12 week EPC schedule. That is the entire inspection-window recovered.
Before you release the RFQ, tick the 9 boxes below. A mill-direct supplier with project-bundled scope should answer all 9 without you chasing a sales engineer for two weeks.
Pick a U-bend tube bundle when the duty is a high-pressure, high-temperature shell-and-tube exchanger with a removable bundle (hydrocracker, FCC, ethylene, ammonia). The U-bend allows the bundle to expand thermally and to be pulled for cleaning. EZ Steel's U-bend product line covers R = 1.5D – 3D long-radius bends, with post-bend stress-relief for austenitic stainless and Charpy-tested bends for low-temperature service. See the U-bend family page for available standards and grades.
Helical welded fin (Hf-welded or laser-welded) is the default for clean to moderately-dirty flue gas — high heat-transfer area, robust bonding, predictable pressure drop. Serrated (cut-fin) is the right answer for dirty, fouling-prone flue gas (waste incineration, biomass, steel-mill sinter) because the cut pattern disrupts the gas boundary layer and reduces fouling. Both are stock items; the choice is duty-driven, not preference-driven.
Start with Cu-Ni 90/10 (C70600) for the seawater side; escalate to 70/30 (C71500) if flow velocity exceeds 3.5 m/s. The titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless route (TP304 / TP316L) is more expensive and rarely needed unless the process side is hot acid. EZ Steel ships Cu-Ni base tubes to ASTM B466 and EEMUA 234, with matching companion flanges and Cu-Ni stud bolts.
Three levers: (a) select a serrated fin instead of a smooth fin to disrupt the boundary layer; (b) oversize the bundle 10-15 % on heat-transfer area to absorb the fouling resistance; (c) design for online soot-blowing (cap on soot-blower lance penetration) or for offline water-spray cleaning. All three are usually specified together — never assume the boiler team will retrofit soot-blowing after the bundle is installed.
EN 10204 3.1 is the mill's own certificate, validated by the mill's QA team. 3.2 adds an independent third-party witness (usually a TUV, BV, SGS, LR or DNV inspector) who attests the test results in person. For LNG, nuclear, sour service (NACE MR0175), and any service that triggers an insurance rider, 3.2 is the standard. EZ Steel routinely issues 3.2 for these categories; the 5-7 day inspection-window is built into the project schedule.
The single largest avoidable cost on a finned-tube / U-bend bundle in 2026 is the stockist margin and the MTC fragmentation that comes with it. A mill-direct project bundle (base tube + fin + U-bend + fittings + flanges + stud bolts + gaskets) brings:
EZ Steel's 480,000+ t/y capacity across 8 product categories (carbon and carbon-alloy steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel alloy, heat efficiency tubes, pipe fittings, pipe flanges, gaskets / stud bolts / nuts, and industrial valves) is the reason a single mill-direct PO can cover the full scope from base tube to bolted joint — and ship in one window. The 1994-vintage operation, the API / EN / ASME certifications, and the 30+ years of project experience on China's South-to-North Water Diversion, West-East Gas Pipeline, refinery and petrochemical EPCs are what back the certificate chain.
