GOST 9940 is a Russian standard for seamless hot-deformed stainless steel pipes. The pipes are produced by piercing and hot rolling, which makes the standard well suited to larger outside diameters and heavier wall thicknesses than cold-drawn tubes. It covers austenitic, ferritic, and martensitic stainless steel grades, including widely used ones such as 08Kh18N10 (AISI 304), 12Kh18N10T (AISI 321), and 10Kh17N13M2T (AISI 316Ti).
Because the pipes are seamless, they have no longitudinal weld seam to act as a weak point. This gives them a higher pressure rating and better fatigue life than welded pipe of the same size, which matters in services where the line is cycled between operating and shutdown conditions.
